It’s just now coming out in the national news that Jessica Lynch was anally raped whilst being held in captivity over in Iraq. Hmmm, I’m not really surprised by that. From talkin to military guy’s here at work and knowing what I know about how other nations conduct war, it came as no big shock. Some nations see the act of rape as just another way to take whatever war they’re involved in to a higher personal level. Shit, until fairly modern times raping and pillaging was how armies got paid. In just recent months human aid organizations are finding out that tens of thousands of Congolese women caught up in that African nation’s civil war have been the subjects of many brutal rapes. Rape has been used against the refugees in Kosovo. And yes, since the First World War, rape during times of war has been considered a war crime, but it’s really only since the inception of the Internet that the world’s been aware of it in such huge numbers. You know that thing you always hear about that the Internet has turned the earth in a global village? That also means all the news that we as Americans never wanted to hear or believe. Like that our laws and customs don’t always apply to our neighbor’s around the globe and the things some of em do to even the so called playin field is pretty fucked up. And that war is not a gentlemanly pursuit and that dying for your country ain’t the worst thing that can happen to you.
