don't call it a comeback

“On April 11th, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. EST Danielle Willmott, founder of IndiRec, is asking all Americans to support her call for a National Walkout to help bring recognition to a federal holiday, especially to the efforts of United Native America (UNA), an organization that has poured a great deal of time, energy, and money into getting a holiday for the general appreciation of all Native American tribes alike. The event is scheduled for. Participants are to leave their desks and stand on the sidewalks for fifteen minutes. Danielle is asking for people to spread the word, and show their support by wearing three ribbons on their shirt: RED - for reflection of blood shed, BLACK - for power and strife, BLUE - for depth, wisdom and purity of the spirit”.

This has been in the works for over fifteen years and no, fuckin Thanksgiving doesn’t count as a Native American holiday. America has a national holiday for every occasion and for almost ethnic group except for the Native Americans and that’s some fucked up shit. Next to Black folk there I don’t think there’s been a group of American peoples parodied and fucked over or whose history’s been screwed over as bad. The American government has given national apologies to Blacks for fuckin us over, to the Japanese Americans for being fucked over during the Second World War. And to other peoples that it’s fucked over in the name of national interest. But Native Americans have still not heard a peep about their shit. So this national walkout is a good thing I think if for nothing else it’ll make people pay attention to some shit going on. To learn more about what's going on, go here.

My Grandmother the Pure blood Cheyenne, would be pissed if I didn't participate. I'm probably one of the only Viking/Indians you'll see on the plains. But like my momma always told me you can pick your friends, not your family!

I will be on the sidewalk head held high.
