Death's Door, the view from the Spanish announcers table: it's one way to get rid of the band

it's one way to get rid of the band

Since the OG Hurricane went down those of us that used to hang out there have been scattered to the four winds. None of us are really digging the new Hurricane so we tend to do our thing at the Record Bar mainly because a former Hurricane bartender owns it.

Plus not withstanding the hipster stink, it’s a cool place to drink and some of the old Hurricane staff works there which makes the seeing always pleasant. But on Wednesdays and Fridays the hardier of us have been hanging out at this hole-in-the-wall called Kennedy’s over in Waldo.

I got introduced to Kennedy’s due to a very dear friend of mine taking over day bartender duties and since its close to my work and on the way home, why not drop in? Plus the world’s best band, “The Buddy Lush Phenomenon” plays there for happy hour every Wednesday knocking out the punk and rockabilly classics.

Kennedy’s is almost the perfect bar for me. It’s a friendly old school hole in the wall that pours a good drink and the bartender who I love something stupid is nice to look at. And the best thing is that unless folks know me, no one talks to me.

People go there for the serious business of drinking and if a conversation breaks out, fine as long as it doesn’t interfere with the drinking part. So it pains me to have to announce that Kennedy’s Bar & Grill burnt to the fuckin ground this morning and is no more.

The fire started before it opened which is fortunate since that meant that my pal hadn’t gotten to work yet to open up. But several fire fighters were injured while fighting the fire which by all accounts consumed the entire building which Kennedy’s was only a small part of.

Hopefully the owners who seemed to be cool people can and will rebuild and my pal can continue working without too much of a hitch. How come bad things never happen to the fucked up places?

Yeah, I like Kennedy's a lot, too. And I guess part of the charm is walking upstairs to use the men's room. As you know, it's mostly old, dark wood up there. Like a tinderbox.

In case you didn't see the post on her blog, the bridal shop upstairs was the one doing the gown and veil for Faith over at Frighteningly Uncommon Sense.

I've never been to Kennedy's, but I really like the 75th St. Brewery right next door.

That sucks. Our favorite kick-back spot to stop for a drink after work got bought out by a couple of former frat boys. I think I would rather have seen it burned to the ground.

I've been through the gut wrenching that follows the loss of a really good Hangout.
Back in Cambridge there was a hotel/bar that had been home #1 or #2 to about 5 generations of locals.
It burnt down and there was a ceremony that blocked the street for an hour...a moments silence and a lot of tears. The question that ended the solemn event?
Where we goin' for a beer?
