Death's Door, the view from the Spanish announcers table: yasser that's my baby

yasser that's my baby

EQUAL

Yasser Arafat dying from AIDs? I'm putting a five spot on it, any takers? Of course all this is speculation, but it’s been rumored for years that Arafat leans toward the gay side of the street. And before I get banged on for using the word “gay”, let me point out that I could care less; I just found it odd considering how hard Palestine tends to suppress its gay citizens. Anyway it’s just one of those things about people that you run across on the net from time to time. One example is the article below from World Weekly News.
"and the monkey flipped the switch"

Yeah, it's not like that disease needs to be politicized any more, right?

Greg, and I say this as a fan and loyal reader: It's pretty sleazy to speculate about the guy's impending death and to seemingly do so with glee.

Now and again we all cross the line, and I think that humor can come from any place, I don't believe in sacred cows. But really I think this post is pretty disgusting.

Sure, you weren't attacking anybody and people die from lots of things, the only thing that is certain for any of us is that sooner or later we'll all die . . . but the "spirit" of your post seems to be pretty much without class. I'm not offended or upset or even that interested in pursing a debate . . . all I can say is that I'm disappointed. ( I won't even begin to delve into the complexities of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and the many opinions that surround the issue OR the ethics of respecting the right to privacy of any sick person which is the opposite side of the same coin that allows the true bravery of folks like Arthur Ashe and countless others to be commended and celebrated for their disclosure and fight against the disease)

I'll keep on reading because I think you're a brilliant writer but I can only hope that you'll return to the more thoughtful and insightful (and funny) commentary to which I've grown accustomed from this site.

Peace,

Tony

Greg,
I take that bet - can you make it twenty- because:
1. Like it would ever be made public ifn he was.
2. How old is this guy? I realize that he has in recent years had weight loss, but that often comes with old age.
3. You want to talk about people that are uptight about sex well the middle eastern mulsum radicals are so uptight catholic nuns are down right slutty in comparrison. Albeit, he is old and probably has had a number of transfusions associated with various operations, but the testing of blood for HIV has been greatly improved since the 80s and the likelihood of getting the disease has via that vector has greatly diminished since.
4.Most people who have HIV/AIDS actually die for something else, i. e. cancer or the flu, same as many of the elderly.
5. I could go on and on, but he must be around 80 at least by now.

The linked article states, "Islamic law is very clear on the issue of homosexuality," notes Nasser. "There is only one penalty: Death."

Many people consider meeting Greg a penalty. Ironically, under Islamic law, he's now the singular penalty for an entire portion of the Islamic population.

I'll bet you didn't anticipate having to deal with this issue all by yourself Greg. If anyone has to do it, I'm glad it's you.
