I'm crashing here

For a guy who could never get his head around games or playing shit on the computer, I’m kind’a digging the flight simulator thing. And I love; I mean love my big black joystick. Fuck, I can’t keep my hands off of it.

I’m using two programs, “Aces High II” which I found on the Military Channel and “Microsoft Flight Simulator X”. The flying part is easy as a muthafucker; it’s the landing, turning and all the other shit that keeps me from crashing that’s hard.

I’ve also discovered the downside to all this shit. Now I want better graphics and more speed. So even though my current system is a Pentium 4, dual core 3.0. with 5125 of RAM, I feel the need for a better video card and more memory.

And now I’m also wondering if my shiny new flat screen’s refresh rate is fast enough. Any of you gaming people out there know?

Your screen is probably just fine. I assume that you have 512MB of RAM that you would probably be well served to upgrade to one or two GB. You'll need to do this in matched pairs, ie 512 MB in one slot, 512 in the other to get the best performance.

The video card part can be a little confusing depending on the type of slots available.

Sit down mike and let a pro handel this. Go out and buy a giant screen tv, preferably panasonic upgrade your ram as high as you like up to 5 tearbyte ,thats if your mother board can handel it. Then go out and get the best video card you can find and pair two of them toghther working side by side. It's kind of what I did to mine but a little less on the video and tv. I can play any game at any speed. Go ahead and upgrade your whole computer in about cause in two 2 years video games are going to get bigger and better. Some games are over 2 terabytes now. If want a new computer. I would go all out and get the ultimate best The Area-51 7500 from www.alienwear.com trust me you will lick your balls after you see this one.......Evermore

The only computer game I've ever really loved is Sim City. It's intelligent, doesn't require lightning reflexes, doesn't require another person and I can keep one city going for weeks or longer.

And no, it doesn't require a joystick.

Greg,
One of the young guys I work with just bought a alienware machine. I simply have never seen anything like it. He works games, sleeps games, talks games, fucks games, drinks game, eats games, drives games, he's a gaming freak.
He paid for it in one lump sum,and after it arrived he took off for two weeks.
This machine has consumed his soul. It's like he has 10 T1 lines coming into his house......through fiber. it's that fast.
If this is what you want to do, start saving your money, or else hit up your mother, You simply will not be satisfied with any other machine.

Hello Greg...
A few suggestions! Microsoft makes Combat Flight Simulator 1, 2 and 3. All WWll. 2, older is a very good simulator,(carrier landings) can be found for about 20.00 and would be frame friendly with your setup. 3 is newer needs a good system to work right(I use a 7800gt vid card). Two good websites for flight sims. sim-outhouse.com and netwings.com Both can be upgraded with freeware and payware. Great stuff, and hard to put down... Love your take on life!!

Microsoft Flight Simulator X ,
Falcon 4.0: Allied Force
F-22 Lightning 3
Combat Flight Simulator 3
FirePower Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3

Thier you go the top 5 games in flight all have an 8.0 rateing I've tried them all and thier kick ass and if you really want to fly try out some of the star wars flight games.

Star Wars Rogue Leader Rouge Squadron 2 this one will rock your world and trust me on that. When I played it the first time I got nauseated and it was one hell of a game.

Hell I"ll go shopping with you I free on wendsday. I built my own system and I know all the specs when it comes to computers. Plus when it comes to games I only play the best. Plus if you really want to rock your socks off play the games on the hardest level...plus try some of the DVD flight games you don't have to load the whole game on your computer to play it and since I am going to be haveing more time on my hands I will be playing more games too....evermore

P.S. Sims that's no video game. come on ladies..Evermore

Hey, finally a topic here I can be considered an expert on.

As far as your current machine is concerned, more RAM and a faster video card will get you where you want to go until you save up the cash to get a new pc altogether. Upgrading your processor/CPU itself is likely pointless at this stage.

I have to assume that your PC still has an AGP slot for video instead of PCIe, and I don't know what type of video card you have now, but the best bet for a replacement would either be a GeForce 7600GT 580M if you're looking for something reasonably priced, or the ATI X1950 Pro AGP if you have a bit more cash ($200+).

And as far as your monitor/display is concerned, anything with a refresh rate of 8ms or less should be just fine.

I'm in the market for a new joystick myself. Thinking of going with the Logitech® Extreme™ 3D Pro. Not as fancy as yours, perhaps, but does have the twisty handle that I need for playing BF2 and is pretty cheap ($30). Plus my friend has one and he says it works well.

I've played AHII for years. I played the two weeks free then thought I'd have fun offline. I was hooked and and have been a subscriber since.

I just can't get enough of the unfriendly skies.

I've also learned more about the old warbirds then I ever thought existed.
